Twitter’s new Status feature is very similar to Facebook’s older status feature that allowed users to create a post by adding pre-written labels and text of their choice to give additional context to their posts. Some of the Twitter statuses, include “Shower thoughts,” “Picture of the day,” “AMA,” “Vacation Mode,” “Spoiler alert,” “Hot take,” “Traveling,” “Unpopular opinion,” and more are also accompanied by emojis. At present, users cannot customize their status and need to select from Twitter’s existing list. Currently, the company is testing the new Status feature only for a select group in the United States and Australia. However, the size of the testing group is not confirmed. “For a limited time, we are testing a feature that allows you to add a status topic from a predetermined list to your Tweets to provide more context for your followers,” Twitter told TechCrunch. “So whether you are about to drop a hot Tweet thread, share your shower thoughts, or have a bad case of the Mondays, your Tweets can better convey what you are up to.” Some Twitter users started reporting that they could now post Twitter statuses with one user posting screenshots showing what it looks like. One of the screenshots reveals that the users are greeted with a pop-up on trying to add a status, which reads: New: Set a Status Whether you’re on vacation or just watching TV, tell everyone what you’re up to by setting a status when you Tweet.
— Takes Of Vesperia (@coolranchzaku) July 27, 2022 The status, along with an accompanying emoji, will appear below the Twitter user’s name and can be applied to only one tweet. Also, they cannot be edited. Clicking on the predefined status will reportedly display a list of other public tweets using the same status or phrase, similar to the tweets that use the same hashtags on the platform and on Instagram. The new ‘Status’ feature could help users save characters while composing a tweet. It is not clear when the feature will be widely rolled out to all Twitter users. Apart from ‘Status,’ Twitter is also working on other several features, such as the downvote button, CoTweet, and Twitter Circles.
