Recently, iOS users have discovered that Siri is capable of showing off its musical side. To hear her musical talents, simply hold down the home button on your iPhone to activate the personal assistant and say, ‘Siri, beatbox for me’ and she will say, “Here’s one I’ve been practicing,” then starts beatboxing with the following phrase: “Boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats and boots. I can do this all day. Cats and boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats.” You may wonder why that phrase, and how is it related to beatboxing? Apparently, when starting out in beatboxing, repeating that phrase is often used as one of the first lessons in beatboxing. While Siri’s approach to beatboxing is quite straightforward, surely her skills will improve over time. Even though Siri definitely hasn’t quite learnt the art of beatboxing, she can certainly do a mean boots and cats when asked. Not only does Siri have musical talents, she can be quite the comedian if you ask the right questions. Last summer, Siri took the internet by storm with a response to the simple maths question: ‘What is zero divided by zero?’ The voice assistant begins by saying that the sum doesn’t make sense before using the Cookie Monster to help explain why. The phrase “what is zero divided by zero” then trended on Twitter. When Siri is asked the maths sum, it says: “Imagine that you have zero cookies and you split them evenly among zero friends. “How many cookies does each person get? See? It doesn’t make sense. “And Cookie Monster is sad that there are no cookies, and you are sad that you have no friends.” Siri is well-known for giving funny answers to a wide variety of questions. For example, if a user asks Siri why the chicken crossed the road it responds: ‘Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road crossed the chicken depends on your frame of reference, according to Einstein.’ When asked to reveal when the world will end, Siri jokes: “I don’t know, but I wouldn’t worry about it…there are other perfectly good universes.” As Mashable points out that this beatboxing talent of Siri’s has actually been around since November 2015, however, it was only recently that people started discovering Siri’s not-quite-hidden talent and spreading the word to turn it viral. Maybe by the time the next version of iOS rolls around, Siri will have mastered the art of beatboxing and can do more than just repeat boots and cats ad nauseam.
