Kaspersky Lab has described the ASUS hack as a “one of the biggest supply-chain attacks ever.” Apparently, the hackers behind the APT operation dubbed ‘ShadowHammer’ modified the ASUS Live Update Utility – a pre-installed utility in most new ASUS computers – which delivers BIOS, UEFI, and software updates to ASUS laptops and desktops. The hackers injected a backdoor in the ASUS Live Update Utility between June and November last year, which was discovered by Kaspersky researchers in January 2019....

The FTC claims that AT&T’s Mobile voice is a common carrier service—similar to the utility status of the traditional wire-line telephone network—placing it under the Federal Communications Commission’s jurisdiction. With the FTC’s October 2014 lawsuit against AT&T they only applied it to mobile broadband, which AT&T argues is not a common carrier service. AT&T insists that their mobile voice’s common carrier status also protects them from the FTC taking action against the cellular data portion of its business....

In the US, forced by the FCC, AT&T has to provide unlock codes for all users who have finished out their contract or have paid a fee to leave the service. This code is usually obtained from AT&T call centers using a special service called Torch. AT&T has accused three of its former employees namely Kyra Evans, Nguyen Lam and Marc Sapatin for intentionally running a malware in their systems to handover the unlock codes of the company products to another company which provides the service of unlocking preset codes,according to legal documents filed in a District Court in Seattle....
