Aimed at students and businesses, the new laptop comes as a successor to the entry-level Surface Laptop Go, which was launched in 2020 in Microsoft’s line-up. “Today we’re delighted to announce Surface Laptop Go 2. This product has been meticulously crafted to deliver our Surface signature premium design and features in an ultra-portable format,” Microsoft wrote in a blog post. The sleek and portable Surface Laptop Go 2 features a 12.4-inch vibrant PixelSense touch display at the standard 60Hz refresh rate with a resolution of 1536 x 1024 (148 PPI) and a peak brightness of 330 nits. Powered by the 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor, Microsoft has improved the thermals inside the Surface Laptop Go 2 to be “quieter” and make it easier for users to focus. According to Microsoft, the Surface Laptop Go 2 “provides 30% more key travel than MacBook Air”. It also added that the laptop is the first Intel-based secured-core PC from Surface that offers new levels of security. Further, the laptop also comes with an improved HD camera and dual Studio Mics, which will make you look and sound your best when making video calls. Also, it is equipped with Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics for better graphics along with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of SSD (removable) storage. The company adds that the SSD, battery, display cover, and trackpad are all designed to be removable and replaceable for added sustainability. However, it notes that the “components [are] replaceable by Microsoft or a Microsoft Authorized Service Provider.” In other words, the company is recommending using only a certified technician that follows Microsoft’s guidelines. The device also includes the C-Cover (Keyset and Trackpad), AB Cover (Display) and battery1, and Surflink cable to help extend the laptop’s life. For connectivity, the Surface Laptop Go 2 has a USB-A port, a USB-C port, a headphone jack, and a proprietary Surface port for charging. However, it will not be featuring a backlit keyboard. Furthermore, the device ships with Windows 11, Microsoft’s latest operating system, and has preloaded Microsoft 365 apps. It also features an optional Fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button on high-end Surface Laptop Go 2 models. In addition, the device weighs 2.48 pounds and measures 10.95’’ x 8.1’’ x 0.62’ inches. It comes with a lithium-ion battery that offers around 13.5 hours of battery life with the 39W power supply capable of charging it to 80% in just over an hour. It also supports fast charging, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1. The Surface Laptop Go 2 is available in four different colors: Sage, Ice Blue, Sandstone, and Platinum. The product is now available for pre-order from Microsoft.com or BestBuy.com in select markets. Orders will start shipping on June 7 with the product’s general availability. Coming to the pricing, the base model of the Surface Laptop Go 2 starts at $599.99 for 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, $699.99 for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and $799.99 for 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There is also a commercial version of the laptop available that can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM. Commercial customers can visit the Surface for Business page to learn more.
