The purpose of the new market research app is to collect information directly from the people who use its services and use it to improve products like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Portal and Oculus, and to benefit the broader community. “Today, we’re introducing Facebook Viewpoints, a new market research app that rewards people for participating in surveys, tasks, and research. We believe the best way to make products better is to get insights directly from people who use them. We’ll use these insights to improve products like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Portal and Oculus, and to benefit the broader community,” Erez Naveh, Facebook’s Product Manager announced in a blog post. So, how does the app works? Once you have set up a Viewpoints account, you will be asked to join programs.  Before each program, the company will explain what information will be collected, how it will be used and how many points you will receive for completion. It will also let you know how many points you require in order to receive a payment. Once you reach that amount of points, you will receive a payment sent directly to your PayPal account. The first program of the platform is about the well-being of the users. “We want to better understand how using social media like Facebook can affect people’s well-being, so we’re launching the Wellness Survey. The information from this survey will help us create better products that aim to limit the negative impacts of people.” social media and increase the benefits,” according to Naveh. While setting up Viewpoints account, the company will be collecting personal information such as name, email address, date of birth, gender, and country of residence, to qualify you to individual programs. However, Facebook assures that it will not sell your information from this app to any third parties. Also, you can terminate your membership at any time. “We won’t sell your information from this app to third parties. We also won’t publicly share your Facebook Viewpoints activity on Facebook or on other accounts you’ve linked without your permission. And you can end your participation at any time,” said Naveh. The Facebook Viewpoints app is currently open to anyone 18 and older, and every program will have its own eligibility criteria. The app is presently only available to users in the U.S. who have Facebook accounts. However, the social media giant has plans to expand the app to more countries next year. Those interested can download Viewpoints for Android or iOS to start completing the first program. To learn more about the app, you can visit viewpoints.facebook.com.
