The Magic Mouse hasn’t really been updated since 2009 and the wireless keyboard hasn’t received an update since even before that. So, the FCC filings indicate that Apple is already working on it. While there is no clarity from the filings as to how the external design of these products would be, however, the underside of the device displayed indicates that there is a possibility of some incredible new function or feature that’s lurking on the top. Further, they will no longer be stuck to Bluetooth 2.0. Instead, the new peripherals will have support for Bluetooth 4.2, offering greater energy efficiency as well as security. Another interesting change that is pointed in the filings is that the mouse will no longer need AA batteries, but instead come with built-in lithium-ion batteries. This means users will no longer have to change batteries ever again. Coming to the wireless keyboard, it looks to be sleeker than the current model – reminiscent of the thinner design of the recently launched 12-inch in Macbook. There is no clarity as to when the new Magic Mouse 2 and wireless keyboard will be released. Apple is scheduled to hold a media event to introduce the new iPhones, iPad mini, and Apple TV on September 9th, so one can expect the new accessories to be announced on that day.
